A Schreiber S71 (also known as a 5071) bassoon for sale. We are always delighted when a really nice Schreiber S71 bassoon comes along, thanks to their lovely playing characteristics and strong build quality.

This particular bassoon was made at a time when Schreiber were stencilling other companies' names onto some of their bassoons. This has always been a common practice, and this particular bassoon is a stencil instrument for Joh. Margraf, Germany, and is stamped 'Joh. Margraf'. It is a standard Schreiber S71 in every way though, the only difference being slightly darker varnish than normal which is quite elegant.

The S71 has some nice extras like the right hand thumb rollers and most of all the lovely even tone, making it a great choice for anyone looking to upgrade to something really dependable.

This bassoon features:

  • A silky, smooth evenness of tone and a lively roundness to the sound
  • Very good intonation
  • Varnish in excellent condition
  • Silver plating in very good condition
  • High quality extras like metal tenon rings for strength
  • Lined finger holes extending into the bore to aid against bubbling
  • An excellent level of keywork including high D key, left hand thumb whisper key lock, nine rollers including four for the right hand thumb, three trills E-F#-C#-Eb, alternate keys including F#-Bb-Ab
  • Schreiber crook
  • Brand new Tutti Fagotti hard case with back straps

This bassoon has undergone a full overhaul in our workshops, including all new pads, corks and felts, and is offered for sale in outstanding playing condition.
