For sale, a Heckel contrabassoon from 1937 in outstanding condition. Descends to low A and is the 'Opera Model' so very compact and not that much bigger than a low Bb contrabassoon. It comes with a compact gig bag and original hard case. It plays superbly well - big, round, powerful sound, an incredible dynamic range (pianissimo dynamic right down to low A), and generally a beautiful, golden Heckel tone. Instruments of this quality rarely come up for sale.
This contrabassoon has been played professionally.
We have completely overhauled this instrument immediately prior to sale, including disassembly of the joints for re-sealing and a full re-pad. It is a huge job but well worth it as the instrument seals incredibly well now and plays with great responsiveness. It is a stunning example that will be outstandingly reliable for its new owner.
