Original classical bassoon for sale made by Dobner of Strasbourg with seven keys. Few original classical bassoons remain in this kind of playing condition.

This bassoon plays well with good intonation for a bassoon that is two hundred years old. It has been played professionally by a leading UK bassoonist until recently. Comes with a well-matched crook (provenance unknown - may be original) and a case. With the appropriate reed it plays well at A=430Hz.

Stamped 'Dobner & Consort A Strasbourg' (see close-up photographs).

Dobner was active between 1812 and 1837. The Dobner and Keller families collaborated on instrument making, possibly later than this bassoon was made (1).

This Dobner bears many similarities with a Paul White copy of a Buhner & Keller bassoon in our possession. Buhner & Keller were active in Strasbourg contemporarily  (1802-1844) with Dobner. This is a copy of an instrument previously in the Henk de Witt collection, now in the Carolina Music Museum in the USA.

If a prospective owner intends to play this bassoon to any extent it would benefit from a service which we can carry out for a fee. It plays well as it is though.
