Why does my bassoon need servicing?

A regular service will keep your bassoon in top condition, ensuring it won’t let you down and fixing small issues before they grow. Regularly servicing your bassoon also allows you to progress more rapidly with your playing, and helps preserve the value of your instrument.

If it hasn’t been serviced in the last few years then you will definitely benefit from having your bassoon serviced. Many of our clients are amazed at the difference it makes to have your bassoon serviced by experts.

Summer is the perfect time for a service

For most bassoonists, the summer months are the ideal time to have your bassoon serviced - playing opportunities are limited and your instrument is often lying idle while you are busy enjoying the sun, holidaying, or doing other things while the weather is good. 

Once serviced, your bassoon will then be in top condition for the busy autumn season.

We will fit in with your schedule

Book your bassoon in now for some point over the summer to ensure you won’t miss out on a slot - let us know a week or two in advance for a scheduled service, but emergencies can often be accommodated too.

We keep turnaround times to a minimum so you won’t be without your instrument for long.

If you can bring your bassoon to us for an assessment we can discuss the work with you while you’re here. If you can’t make it here you can courier it to us (we can give advice on the best way of doing this). Alternatively, we can send you a custom box and arrange collection of your bassoon if that suits you better. 

Prices 

We always carry out full assessments of bassoons in our workshop before quoting for work, and we supply a full estimate with a breakdown of the costs for you to make an informed decision on whether to proceed, and which options you would like. No two bassoons are the same so we can’t publish a set of standard rates. We always try to keep prices as low as we can and are happy to do as much or as little as the bassoon and your budget demands. Read more about our repairs and servicing options here.

What if my bassoon needs more than a service?

We are set up to carry out any and all repair/up-grade tasks on your bassoon, so if your bassoon needs more than just a service we are very happy to carry out the work. Adding keywork or rollers, repairing cracked tenons, part or complete re-finishing and re-plating are some of the regular tasks we are asked to do.

We will need rather longer for more complex work of course, but will still try to fit the work around your schedule.
