A rare rosewood Heckel 9000 series bassoon!

We’re currently overhauling a rare rosewood Heckel 9000 series bassoon – have you ever seen one before? This is one of only a small handful of rosewood (palisander) bassoons Heckel ever made. The woodgrain pattern is completely different to maple – there are no tiger stripes, and the grain lines are uniform, tight and straight. Rosewood is denser than maple, and more impervious to water, but it is a little heavier. The sound is beautiful – it feels a bit brighter than a maple Heckel bassoon, a bit more focused, and quite pure in tone. Let us know if you’ve ever seen or played one!
