For sale, an outstanding pre-war Kohlert bassoon with a sweet sound. Before 1945 Kohlert were producing a significant number of high quality bassoons, made by hand by skilled instrument makers in Graslitz. This is a "flat-top" model (the long joint has a flattened top like a Heckel 3000). This bassoon is made from fine striped and figured maple wood, which resonates freely and looks elegant.
Apart from their beautiful sound and good looks, Kohlert bassoons are valued for their light-weight construction, making them easier to hold and play. The keywork is not as chunky as on most modern bassoons and feels light to the touch and manoeuvrable.
This bassoon has received a complete and sympathetic restoration in our workshops, including high quality shellac French polish (to match the original finish), complete re-silver and full overhaul including complete re-pad. It is sold in outstanding condition.
Particular features of this bassoon are:
- A lighter, more delicate sound than many modern instruments, with less resistance. The sound is characterful and sweet
- Great intonation
- Lovely, newly-varnished maple wood
- New silver plating
- A good level of keywork including left thumb whisper key, double G# keys, double F# keys, double Bb keys, two trill keys C# and E-F#, extra low C key. There is no high D key (it doesn't need one), no high G ring key (the high G is perfectly in tune without it!), and no rollers (the little finger keys are the original small ones, and they are so comfortable and light to the touch rollers really aren't necessary)
- Protec hard case
- Well matched crook
- 12 month warranty
This bassoon is offered in fantastic playing condition. It has all the accessories you need to get going, including: new silk pull through, new padded leather neck strap and new cork grease.
