For sale, a Fox Model I maple wood bassoon. This bassoon has black varnish, but is a standard maple wood instrument. The Fox Model I is identical to the more well known model II, but the Model I has a lot of impressive upgraded keywork including a full set of right-hand thumb rollers.

The Fox Model 2 and Model I are some of Fox's long bore professional level bassoons, meaning it has a fractionally narrower, longer bore for greater pitch and tone stability. It is a sweet sounding instrument from this world renowned American maker of bassoons.

Here is what Fox have to say about this model:

the long bore design can be identified by a very warm "round" tone, evenly balanced, with excellent intonation throughout the entire range. It is the most secure design and its tone quality fits well into both chamber music and orchestral bassoon parts. Like all Fox bassoons, it features freedom of response, intonation, tonal quality, and projection that will satisfy the requirements of the most discriminating performers.

This is a vintage 1966 Fox bassoon in fully overhauled condition, with all new pads, corks and felts, multiple bore oil, professional keywork set up and much more.

In particular this bassoon features:

  • Nice warm, round sound
  • Good intonation
  • Original black varnish with the usual surface wear you'd expect for this vintage of bassoon i.e. ding and chips to the varnish
  • Nickel-plated keywork in excellent condition
  • German bell ring
  • Unusually advanced level of keywork including 15 rollers, high D and high E keys, left thumb whisper key lock, alternate G#-F#Bb keys, C# and E-F# trills, extra low C key
  • Finger-hole liners
  • Well matched crook
  • Bassoon case
