Some people think twice
about choosing to play the bassoon because of the high initial
cost. However, a good secondhand bassoon will hold its value
remarkably well, so that you should get a large proportion
of your money back when you later decide to upgrade/sell.
The bassoon's sound qualities
improve over time; as new wood grows older it gives the bassoon
a richer sound, making a pre-owned bassoon a wise choice for
many. In fact, many bassoons made before WWII are still played
professionally, and are often preferred to younger instruments
for this reason.
